KOKRAJHAR: The Executive Members (EM) of BTC, Rakesh Brahma and Arup Kr. Dey paid a sudden visit at PWD (Building) department on Wednesday and warned the officers of taking action for their laziness in departmental works. Show cause notice is likely to be issued against the concerned officers.
During their visit, the EMs checked the attendance book and inquired about lapses in the department's technical branch. The Executive Engineer was not available when they visited the office. Both the EMs accused the department for delaying the preparation of estimate to contractors.
EM Rakesh Brahma who is also the advisor of high power committee of PWD of BTC Legislative Assembly told the officials available in the department that there will be no excuse for sluggish officers and officials as the present government believes in work culture. He said the UPPL-led BTC government wants speedy implementation of all developmental works. The officers and employees must be dedicated to ensure timely implementation of welfare schemes, he said adding that the CEM of BTR Pramod Boro directed the officers and public representatives to visit the fields to oversee the implementation of schemes and thus everybody has moral responsibility to fulfill this commitment.
Brahma said PWD was a most vital department for progress of people and there are lots of schemes but this department is failing to prepare estimates for contractors in right time due to reasons best known to them. He alleged that the technical branch of PWD (B) division had failed to send estimates to contractors even after three to four months of their request. He hinted that the slow preparation of estimate by Junior Engineers has clear indication of craving bribe in the name of making estimate. He also said the timely execution of works will not be possible unless the estimate is given in right time for tendering process to start the work. He warned the department's technical branch that harsh action would be taken against them and the department's head.
EM Arup Kr. Dey also said most of the developmental works got delayed due to delay of submission of estimate. He also said the technical branch of the department and concerned officer were the responsible for the delay in implementation of the schemes.
