BTC organizes thanks-giving programme for peace in Kokrajhar

A large thanksgiving ceremony was held at SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar on Monday night by the UPPL-led coalition government of the BTC region to celebrate the peaceful coexistence of all racial and ethnic groups in the region since the signing of the third Bodo peace accord.

KOKRAJHAR: A large thanksgiving ceremony was held at SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar on Monday night by the UPPL-led coalition government of the BTC region to celebrate the peaceful coexistence of all racial and ethnic groups in the region since the signing of the third Bodo peace accord. Several thousand people from BTC districts attended the event. The council government, led by the UPPL, expressed gratitude to Union Cabinet members, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their audacious efforts to bring about peace in BTC.

Assam's Cabinet Minister UG Brahma said in his speech that the three years of peace in the region had been brought about by the UPPL, BJP, and GSP coalition government in BTC. For this reason, the council government arranged this ceremony of gratitude, with special attention paid to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He said there had been long struggle of ABSU, NDFB and other groups for Bodoland. To re-establish peace in BTC, the government of India invited the ABSU, UBPO and NDFB to sign 3rd peace accord on January 27, 2020 since then peace has returned, he said the extension of villages in Sonitpur and Biswanath districts as per clause of BTR accord has been made and in the 1st phase 41 villages of these district have been included in BTR. He also said the government of BTC had been working for peace and development keeping all communities on board equally. He called upon all to uphold peace and harmony among all sections of people.

In his remarks, Minister Ashok Singhal stated that since the Pramod Boro-led council government took office three years ago, the hard times in BTR have passed and a new era has begun in the area.

In his speech, CEM of BTC and UPPL president Pramod Boro said no one expected total peace in BTC but it happened because of strong initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said peace has returned after BTR Accord but before that people of the region had lack of safety and security of lives and properties. “Our top goal was to bring about harmony among all societal groups, and now that it has returned, there are no longer any tears in the eyes of the mothers,” he said adding that the dreams of Bodofa UN Brahma had been transformed into reality. He said students of the region could have give attention in their studies in Technical, Medical and other sectors besides giving opportunities to all underprivileged sections. He also said corruption had been crashed in BTC, extension of villages up to Gahpur is being implemented, women and students are given incentives.
