Guwahati: United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) president Pramod Boro has won the Koklabari constituency with 3,734 votes in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, the results of which are being declared on Saturday. The UPPL gained 23,506 votes, followed by ruling Bodoland People's Front (BPF) with 13,238 votes and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) with 19,772 votes.
He has also won the Goibari constituency, as per latest reports.
Boro has been serving as the president of UPPL) since February 25, 2020. He was also the former president of All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU). Born to Late Ghanashyam Boro, he is a resident of Tamulpur in Baksa district of Assam.
Boro joined the UPPL at the Fourth Annual Convention held at Bijni in February this year. The UPPL was floated on August 5, 2015 under the banner of Bodoland movement groups at that time headed by Urkhao Gwra Brahma as the founder president of the party.
As the counting for the BTC election is underway, Boro-led UPPL has been leading in 24 seats in early trends. Till noon, UPPL was leading with a mix of comfortable and narrow margins.
However, the latest trends show that UPPL has descended from 24 to 9 seats.
Meanwhile, on December 9, Boro's convoy was attacked by unidentified miscreants at Naigaon in Kokrajhar district, damaging three vehicles.
Boro and candidate of Baokhungri BTC constituency, Pratibha Brahma, escaped the attack unhurt.
The voting for 40 constituencies of BTC election ended on December 10. The counting began on Saturday from 8 am to decide the fate of 241 candidates.
