KOKRAJHAR: As the 4th BTC election is just five days left, various political parties are doing massive campaigning in order to garner public support. An intense electoral battle is likely to be seen between the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) in almost every constituency while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going all-out to topple the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF government in the council.
North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP State president Ranjit Kumar Dass have been campaigning extensively for BJP candidates.
BPF president Mohilary, who attended a number of meetings in Baksa on Tuesday and Wednesday, while talking to media persons, said that the political battle would not be between the Promod Boro-led UPPL and BPF but between him and Himanta Biswa Sarma. Taking a dig at Sarma, Mohilary said that Sarma might be powerful in rest of Assam but not in the BTC as the BJP had no base in BTC region. He also said that Sarma could bring all NEDA leaders of the north-eastern States, who were also Chief Ministers of their respective States, for poll campaigning but yet Sarma would not be able to him.
Mohilary said that Sarma had resorted to attack him with derogatory words. He hit out at both Himanta Biswa Sarma and Promod Boro as leaders who had been 'kicked out' of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) and later took refuge in parties like the Congress, BJP and UPPL.
