KOKRAJHAR: Altogether 7,144 beneficiaries were distributed Land Title Certificates under Forest Rights Act, 2016 under Haltugaon and Kachugaon Forest Division at a ceremonial programme held at Patgaon Government Higher Secondary School in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Pramod Boro along with BTR Executive Member and in-charge of Forest department attended the programme and handed over the certificates to the beneficiaries.

BTR CEM Pramod Boro said land certificates had been handed over to 7,144 beneficiaries for 25,500 bighas of land under Haltugaon and Kachugaon Forest Division. He called upon the beneficiaries not to sell the land and not to destroy the forest wealth. He said similiar programme will also be carried out in other districts of BTR. He said the BTC Government was committed to safeguarding the interests of the indigenous people and is doing all that is necessary for the welfare of the people.

Boro said that the BTR government and State government were working for the welfare of common citizens in the state and accordingly it has been implementing the Forest Right Act, 2006 among the citizens of remote areas who are living at the forest areas since long years. He said that many hundred citizens are getting land entitlement certificate under the act. He said that thousand of people from different villages under Haltugaon and Kachugaon forest divisions were given away certificates. He also said BTR government was doing all round development that is necessary for their welfare. He also said that it was an efforts to protect and secure the rights of indigenous people under the Forest Right Act,2006 and subsequently distributed the land entitlement certificates.

BTR Executive Member of Forest, Ranjit Basumatary said that after thorough verifications of the beneficiaries, the land title certificates were distributed and land must be protected with multiple cultivation. He urged the citizens to plant saplings and build a green natural environment in the region. BTR Executive Members Reo Reoa Narzihary, Rakesh Brahma, MLAs Lawrence Islary , Jiron Basumatary and DC of Kokrajhar Varnali Deka were among those present.
