BTR CEM Pramod Boro proposes an orientation programme for council representatives

KOKRAJHAR: The Chief Executive Member of the BTR, Pramod Boro on Thursday proposed orientation programme for the elected members of council legislative assembly through veteran parliamentarians over making policy, assembly proceedings and business.

In the special session of BTR Legislative Assembly, Boro said that the orientation programme for elected representatives of the council was of utmost important as most of the members were new. "The elected representatives must be aware of the parliamentary proceedings, business of the session and adoption of policy," he said, adding that the development of the region would depend on the comprehensive policy adopted in the assembly session and thus all representatives should get trained to become well and fortified representatives.

In the special session, the EM of Agriculture, Ghanashyam Das said that in the last 17 years, the elected members did not get administrative quarters in BTC. He said that the privilege of house rent for the elected representatives did not match with the market rate and thus the council should take urgent steps to construct quarters for all EMs and MCLAs as soon as possible.

Later, talking to reporters, CEM Pramod Boro said that he wwould take urgent steps for the construction of quarters for the representatives by calling an Executive Council meeting very soon. He also said that he would discuss with the respective departmental officers on the matter. He further said that the orientation programme for the members of the council would be conducted on handling of business proceedings and adoption of policy.

On the total absence of the opposition party Bodoland People's Front (BPF) led by former chief Hagrama Mohilary in the special session for second time, Boro said that they could be disqualified if they continued to abstain from the session. He said that in a parliamentary democracy, the role of both ruling party and opposition was very important and thus, for the interest of the people, the opposition should participate in the debate. He cautioned that the people of the region would reject them if they did not respect the parliamentary system of the country.
