KOKRAJHAR: The chief of BTR, Pramod Boro on Monday ceremonially distributed appointment letters to the teachers and staff of Kokrajhar Music and Fine Art College, Habrubari in Kokrajhar town. The teachers and other official staff of the lone music and fine art college of the region and lower Assam were elated after the Government of Assam provincialized the college as per the clause of the BTR Accord. But unfortunately, some of the teachers had retired before the school was provincialized.

Boro gave away the appointment letters in presence of Principals of Kokrajhar Science College, Kokrajhar Commerce College and Kokrajhar Music & Fine Art College. As many as 23 teaching and non- teaching staff of Kokrajhar Music and Fine Art College received appointment letters. The Principal of the Kokrjhar Music and Fine Art College, Larlie Brahma gave the key note address.

Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the distribution ceremony, BTR chief Boro said that he had great respect for the teachers and staff of the college who had been working for over 20-25 years in the same institution without getting salary. He said that giving service for over two decades without getting any salary was not a joke but deserved recognition and respect. He said that the Government of Assam had taken up the Kokrajhar Music and Fine Art College for provincialization as per clause of the BTR Accord. He also said that they demanded provincialization of schools and colleges of BTR districts on priority basis and it would be done accordingly.

Boro said that his council government would extend financial support for extension of at least 11,000 classrooms in the region in the next financial year, besides providing special incentives for the development of the schools and colleges. He assured to consider the demand of Kokrajhar Music and Fine Art College for financial support of Rs. 25 lakh for basic infrastructure. The BTR chief said that educational institutions should get all required infrastructure. He called upon the school and college authorities to think about the development of their respective institutions.

Boro said that the Kokrajhar Music and Fine Art College would be renamed after great sculptor and artist Dr Sabha Brahma to keep his contribution alive. He also said that a statue of Brahma would be installed in the premises of Kokrajhar Music and Fine Art College.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters, Gossai Daimary, who received appointment letter, said that they were elated to get the appointment letters after serving for so long. He said that it was part of the success of the BTR Accord and added that they had high hopes from the present council government led by Pramod Boro.
