SILCHAR: Dholai police on Thursday night confiscated huge quantities of Burmese supari from a van. Two suspected smugglers were also arrested by police. They were identified as Mustafa Ahmed of Karimganj and Sadique Rahman of Cachar. During routine checking, police apprehended the van and found 10 sacks of Burmese supari.

In another incident, Rangirkhari outpost on Thursday confiscated huge quantities of narcotic tablets and addictive cough syrup and arrested a local youth Subhrajit Das, a resident of Tarapur area of Silchar town. The suspected drug peddler was arrested from a rented house in Kanakpur area of Silchar. Police had recovered 278 bottles of cough syrup used for intoxication and 2,880 tablets used for treating anxiety and other mental disorders.
