BONGAIGAON: The bust of former Assam Chief Minister Sarat Chandra Sinha was installed on Saturday at Bongaigaon Refinery township.
The bust was unveiled by Amarendra Kalita, Executive Director and Refinery Head. Addressing the gathering, Kalita said that the installation of a commemorative sculpture of Singha was a long awaited aspiration of BGRians, who could recall the significant role that he played in the setting up of the Bongaigaon Refinery Petrochemicals Limited (BRPL), at present BGR, in this part of Assam.
Kalita expressed his happiness in getting the privilege to unveil the bust of a great man who was known for his value-based politics. "The people of Assam owe a lot to Sinha as it was his endeavour that brought in progress to the region of lower Assam. Sarat Chandra Sinha belonged to a rare breed of politicians who sacrificed his life for the welfare of downtrodden people. A State leader of unimpeachable simplicity, honesty and integrity, Sarat Chandra Sinha is fondly remembered as barefoot chief minister. A true Gandhian, he never compromised with his principle of practicing what he preached," Kalita said.
Floral tributes to the great leader were also paid by everyone present. The programme was also attended by SP Baruah, CGM, Kailash Pati, CGM (Projects) and other officials of BGR. The programme was conducted while observing social distancing norms and other precautions in place.
