TINSUKIA: Dr Kuladhar Saikia, president of AxamXahityaXabha (AXX) and former State DGP, unveiled the full bust of 'Sahitya Kandari' Padmanath Gohain Baruah, the first president of AXX, in the premises of Tinsukia branch of AXX at Rangagora Road in the presence of distinguished gathering on Monday.

Later addressing an interactive programme at PadmanathGohainBaruahBhavan, Dr Saikia announced that the AXX would soon launch a digital project that would incorporate initially all valuable manuscripts encompassing legendary tales, folklore, literature, language and culture which would be globally accessible. The project will be community-based where people from every nook and corner will contribute in this massive exercise, Dr Saikia said.

In order to make Assamese language and literature dear to young children, Dr Saikia observed that parents had a pivotal role to play- they must encourage their children to speak in Assamese. He also said that children should be encouraged to participate in the literary programmes of the XahityaXabha. Dr Saikia, while lauding the initiative of TilokHandique and Swarnalata Handique who conceptualized and funded the statue at the cost of Rs 7.50 lakh, said that no branch of XahityaXabha in Assam had ever thought of creating a bust of PadmanathGohainBaruah, a doyen of Assamese literature.

The meeting, chaired by TilokHandique, president of Tinsukia branch of AXX, was moderated by DrGirishHandique, former president of Tinsukia branch of AXX, while ArunimaHandique, the branch secretary, laid the objective of the programme. Various organizations, including representatives from SakhaXahityaXabhas, felicitated Dr Saikia on the occasion.
