Dibrugarh: The Labour Union of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) has appealed to the Central and State governments to take quick measures to restore the condition of the 2nd and 3rd units of BVFCL, and to expedite the process of establishing the proposed 4th unit. It has also urged politicians, civil society and apolitical associations to come out and take a joint effort towards reviving the organization.

The condition of the 2nd and 3rd units of BVFCL is quite dismal. As evidence to that, as per sources, the combined output of both the units has dropped by around 1 lakh metric tonnes in the current fiscal year. Besides, frequent technical glitches in the units have also severely hampered the production. The proposed 4th unit, which was expected to lease new life into the otherwise ailing organization, still lies shrouded in uncertainty. Despite investors willing to infuse capital for the proposed 4th unit, red tape is causing further delay to the process. As per a source associated with the Labour Union of BVFCL, a company named National Chemical and Fertilizer was interested to invest, but decided to move away after a wait of two years as it did not receive the government’s consent.

Currently, National Fertilizer Limited is expected to invest in the proposed project, but it also has not got any approval from the government yet. The ailment of BVFCL has affected the employment of many workers - the labour force having seen a steep fall from 4000 to a paltry 600.
