Cachar all set to hold free-and-fair elections: DC Keerthi Jalli

SILCHAR: The Cachar district administration is ready to hold the upcoming Assembly elections in a fair and free manner affirmed Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli, IAS, while addressing a press conference at her office conference hall here on Saturday.

General Observers Amlan Aditya Biswas IAS, Kumar Rajiv Ranjan IAS, Kailash Pagade IAS, along with other government officials including the district police Superintendent Bhanwar Lal Mina were present at the press conference.

Jalli said that in Cachar election district, a total of 80 nomination papers have been submitted by the contesting candidates from seven constituencies. Scrutiny process will be done on 15th March and the date of withdrawal on 17th March, she informed.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that there are a total of 1,834 polling stations in all the Assembly constituencies of the district. Of these, there will be 201 polling centers which will be run by female polling personnel. There are 370 ??auxiliary polling stations. The first phase of training of the polling personnel is over. Women are also ready for polling duties with responsibilities, she added.

Jalli said EVM/VVPATs randomization has already begun. Postal ballots have been arranged for drivers and assistants engaged in polling duties. "People over the age of 80, people with Covid, especially abled, and those involved in emergency services will also benefit by casting their votes through postal ballot papers. Covid protocols will be followed in every polling station. There will be a system to measure the body temperature of the voters through thermal scanner. If someone's temperature is found significantly high, the voter will cast his or her vote in the last hour of voting and the polling officials will take his or her vote wearing PPE kit. Each center will also have masks for voters and gloves for those who will cast their votes. There will also be volunteers to guide the voters", she quipped.

General Observer Amlan Aditya Biswas called for free and fair elections.

Superintendent of Police, Bhanwar Lal Mina said that polling stations run by women would have female security guards. 69 companies of security forces will be deployed in the district in addition to that if required more security forces will be deployed. "Work is underway to identify the sensitive areas also," he added.
