Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli calls for 'Swachh' and 'Sundar' Silchar

SILCHAR: "Silchar city stands upon its own old tradition and a specific history. But all this get faded away when someone spots garbage scattered over the city. But if all the citizens of the city come ahead and take up a proper waste disposal system, then Silchar can also be in top of the cleanliness ranking one day". Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli, made the remarks at Subhasnagar of Silchar on Sunday, while inaugurating door to door garbage collection project in different municipalities of the city.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the Silchar can be made clean if every citizen come forward and contribute their valuable cooperation by not throwing garbage on the street or drain and only disposing through designated municipality garbage collectors.

Referring to the ensuing election, DC said various initiatives have been taken in the district to create voter awareness and in this regard 'Garv Cachar' is also being celebrated.

Sumit Sattawan, Cachar ADC and Executive Officer of Silchar Municipality Board, said that although the people are aware on various issues pertaining to the city, but required awareness in the regard of "Swachhata" has not been achieved. "We were ranked 340 in the Swachh Survekshan. We need to bring more awareness among the people in this regard" Sattawan said adding "the current method to dump garbage in corners of the road is not appropriate and scientific method".

"The municipal vehicles do come and take away the garbage but there is no fixed time for it as a result this process also has its separate difficulties. Therefore, we have decided to hand over the collection of garbage to non-governmental organizations for next two years" ADC Summit Sattawan mentioned.

He further said that in future no vehicle of the municipality will collect waste materials from the road and in place of that only door to door collection will be given importance. "Two separate bins will be provided to every house, for segregation of biodegradable and non biodegradable waste".

According to the Additional District Commissioner, the money collected by the non government organizations for the collection of waste materials, from house to house, will be submitted to the municipality. The fee charged will also be separate for residential buildings, shops and restaurants. Sumit Sattawan sought cooperation of every people in this regard for successful implementation of the project.

While sanitation workers will collect garbage from every household, there will also be a person in charge at every wards to coordinate between individual households and sanitation workers. The deputy commissioner, also on Sunday, handed over garbage bins to some locals and inaugurated a garbage collection vehicle.
