SILCHAR: A preparatory meeting in connection with the 76th Independence Day celebration was held at the conference hall of the Deputy commissioner's office here on Wednesday. While presiding over the meeting in presence of representatives of senior citizens and government officials Cachar DC Rohan Kumar Jha said that the programme will also be organized to celebrate the 76th Independence Day on August 14, 15 and 16.

DC Rohan Kumar Jha further stated that a model anganwadi centre will be inaugurated on August 14 and a programme will be organized to observe the day.

On August 15, there will be a programme which will be held in the village of freedom fighters of the district. There will be a similar schedule on August 16 as well.

Taking part in the discussion DDC Rajiv Roy said that according to the Har Ghar Tiranga programme, all the people of the district will hoist the national flag in their residential houses, commercial institutions and religious institutions from August 13 to August 15.

DDC Roy also reviewed the progress made in implementing the programme of 76th Independence Day on August 15. In the meeting, DDC Roy instructed the officials concerned to complete all preparatory works two days prior to the ceremony. After a threadbare discussion it was unanimously decided that the police parade ground is selected as the venue for the ceremonial flag hoisting. Patriotic songs will be relayed from 5.30am to 6.30pm through FLS of Regional office of Information & public relations Barak valley zone office, at 7am hoisting of National Flag at private residences and establishments by all citizens will be done.

Hoisting of National Flag at all government office buildings and educational institutions will be held at 7.45am following a community singing of National Anthem. A cultural programme will also be held at the police parade ground, stated a press release.
