SILCHAR: Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli has dismissed all speculations about the possibility of another lockdown in the district. She said, "Situation is under control despite some hike in number of infected persons. But, it is not alarming." Her confidence is in the frontline warriors of doctors, medical and paramedical staff who are rendering commendable services to take care of the patients of all classes and rank admitted in SMCH and other treatment centres. The record of casualty in the district is almost zero. On Sunday and Monday around 32 persons infected and with symptoms of COVID-19 were admitted in different treatment centres and all tested negative or recovering well.

The scenario was really worrisome when doctors and nurses as well as health workers during the last four or five days themselves got infected after coming in contact with patients. It all started with Dr Arina Raha, SMCH doctor, who got infected during the examination of general patients at two private nursing homes. Not only she got infected, the virus of COVID-19 affected around 70 others. Dr Arina, quite notably, infected Dr Monika Deb attached with Green Hills Hospital, its owner and proprietor Rudra Narayan Gupta, three heath workers and all his family members. Gupta along with his family members got admitted in SMCH and all of them are recovering well.

MP Dr Rajdeep Roy too came in contact with Dr Monika Deb and to be certain that he was not infected, he along with all the members of his family, driver and security staff went to SMCH and got their throat swab tested which turned out to be negative. Dr Babul Kumar Bezbaruah, Principal, SMCH, confirmed negative report of Dr Rajdeep Roy and others. It is the best of health infrastructure manned by dedicated teams of doctors, nurses and health workers who are working with the only objective of helping the patients of COVID-19 recover well. The Deputy Commissioner said, "I am strictly monitoring the situation and I don't think COVID-19 has taken the shape of community infection."
