SILCHAR: Cachar district administration has signed an MoU with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for providing advanced life support ambulance, ICU equipment and Bolero vehicle for blood bank for Silchar under its Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) activity at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner's office here on Wednesday.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli and Anup Sarma, Senior General Manager, Balipara on behalf of Powergrid NERTS.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Keerthi Jalli said, "We are glad to sign MoU with Power Grid Corporation as part of their Corporate Social responsibility activity, we shall also hope to work with them for developmental initiatives in the days ahead."

Expressing gratitude to the Power Grid Corporation for donating life saving equipment for the district, Keerthi Jalli said, "An ALS ambulance was much-needed here. ALS ambulances prove handy in emergency cases and life-saving cases. We are thankful to the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. ALS ambulances help in extreme cases. They help to shift critical patients from one hospital to another. Even it can take a patient to outside places for further treatment."

While elaborating on the health infrastructure of the district, Jalli said, "The health infrastructure in Cachar district is gradually improving but still the patients of the district have to go to Shillong or Guwahati at least for many services. Last year, a number of patients were airlifted to Guwahati or other parts of the country, but not every patient could afford to spend that much. This advanced life support ambulance will be able to save the lives of many patients."

Deputy Commissioner informed that the cost of the ambulance provided by Power Grid is around Rs 45 lakh. "They are also providing a Bolero vehicle for the blood bank at Silchar Civil Hospital, with adequate funding to build ICU services on the Civil Hospital premises. We believe that they will continue to support the Cachar district administration in terms of infrastructural development through their CSR activities," she continued.

"Although there are doctors at Silchar S.M Dev Civil Hospital, they often do not have the courage to treat critically ill patients as there is no ICU. If we could build an ICU, many patients would be treated here and those who came here in critical condition could be saved,"Jalli quipped.
