KOKRAJHAR: A special 6-month campaign at VCDC level to achieve saturation in respect of bank accounts and expansion of its coverage has been started in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday. It was started from Gendrabilw VCDC with an inaugural programme held at the community hall of Malandubi Onsumwi Krishti Afat.
Inaugurating the programme formally by lighting a lamp, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner, Varnali Deka, said that there were many schemes of the government but many people still do not know them properly. “We are still lagging behind in terms of MUDRA Loans and opening of accounts. In that sense, it appears that the awareness that should have existed among the public is not yet sufficient,” she said. She encouraged the people to apply for MUDRA Loan and take advantage from this scheme to become self-reliant.
The campaign to cover all the VCDCs in the district till August 15, 2023 will basically focus on mobile/Aadhaar seeding of existing accounts with a special focus on opening bank accounts by doing full Know Your Customer (KYC) and achieving saturation in respect of bank accounts, insurance/pension schemes for eligible individuals and distribution of loans to Farmer Produce Organisations (FPO) and Self Help Groups (SHG) for the establishment of infrastructure. Besides, the special camps will also concentrate on expanding the coverage of MUDRA and KCC penetration for persons engaged in animal husbandry, agriculture, dairy and fisheries as well as bringing SHG members within the ambit of the Financial Inclusion (FI) ecosystem of the country.
On the occasion, Zonal Manager of UCO Bank, Guwahati Bappaditya Chatterjee, Lead District Manager Promod Kumar Thakur, District Development Manager of NABARD Kokrajhar Ratan Mani Soram and Block Development Officer of Kokrajhar Samir Basumatary also spoke about the importance of opening of bank accounts by all individuals to avail the benefits of various flagship programmes of the government like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana (PMJJY), Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna (PMKSY), Atul Pension Yojana (APY), MUDRA Loan, Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and Financial Digital Literacy, etc.
