Jorhat: A 2-day capacity building programme on inclusive education was held on August 17 and 18, 2019 at Springdale High School, Jorhat. Inclusive education aims to create a barrier-free learning environment for children with special needs, whether a child has an obvious visible disability such as visual impairment or an invisible disability such as Autism or intellectual disability. Inclusive education respects diversity, acknowledges that learners can come from diverse backgrounds and possess different learning styles. Being inclusive means that the school and classroom environment and teaching methods are adapted to the learning styles of the students.

The capacity building programme is an initiative from the CBSE Centre of Excellence in Guwahati which aims at raising awareness and breaking attitudinal barriers about disability. It provides regular teachers with the knowledge and skills to adapt to their classroom environment and make the teaching methods inclusive. The workshop was facilitated by Special Educator, Delhi Public School Guwahati, Leena Borah and Counsellor, Delhi Public School Guwahati Bornali Borah. Teacher participants were from schools in Jorhat, Golaghat, and Majuli. It was stated in a press release.
