LAKHIMPUR: The second capacity building programme with demonstration on vermicompost unit for the beneficiaries of Model Millet Project (MMP) in Lakhimpur was conducted on Friday in the presence of DDM Lakhimpur followed by visit to millet fields of about 30 farmers. The Model Millet Project for production and promotion of millets was launched in Narayanpur block of district on March 2 of this year under the auspices of NABARD and APRINS organization. The project covers an area of 150 bighas with a participation of 50 farmers. The farmers have been engaged in the project under the guidance of District Development Manger (DDM), NABARD, Lakhimpur, Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) North Lakhimpur and Department of Agriculture.

Ranjit Bhattacharya, PA to CM and VP of the Assam Kishan Morcha also visited the project and appreciated the efforts of NABARD and APRINS and assured support. DDM, Lakhimpur informed him about the initiative of NABARD on millets in the state as well as Farmers-Producers’ Company (FPC) sanctioned in the area. A mobilization programme for FPC, BoD and members from three blocks of Lakhimpur district was also conducted in the presence of the DDM Lakhimpur. The registration process was also being initiated after finalization of the BoD in the same meeting.
