DIGBOI/TINSUKIA: A forest guard under Doomdooma Forest Division was injured after he was allegedly physically assaulted by the DFO Doomdooma on Wednesday night following which the Doomdooma branch committee of Assam Forest Employees' Association declared indefinite cease work demanding proper inquiry, justice and withdrawal of suspension order.
According to reports, the DFO Rajendra Singh Bharti summoned the forest guard Hemkanta Hatimuria and three other fixed-pay forest guards at his official residence on Wednesday night over release of an illegal log-laden vehicle in exchange of bribe and allegedly used abusive language. In a fit of rage, Bharti allegedly slapped Hatimuria, the impact of which dislodged his artificial eye and later he was admitted to the hospital. He also pulled out Hatimuria's decorated badge. All the four have been suspended by the DFO. A case no 282/22 has been registered at Doomdooma PS against Bharti. Bharti could not be contacted for his comment.
Taking strong cognizance of the ugly state of affairs, the All Assam Forest Employees' Association Doomdooma unit, along with various student organizations, including the AASU, AJYCP, and others, staged a protest on the premises of the divisional office on Friday morning.
Meanwhile, a memorandum was also submitted to the Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner lambasting the gruesome act on the part of the DFO. The victim employee is reportedly undergoing treatment at Doomdoma FRU.
