Guwahati: A wanted cattle smuggler was killed, while two others were injured in a police encounter in Assam's Dhubri district on Saturday night.

According to reports, the encounter took place in Dhubri's Bilasipara.

The deceased smuggler was identified as Sakan Ali, while the others two were identified as Nasir Ali and Sohidul Ali.

Acting on a tip-off, the police succeeded in tracing the movement of the smugglers while they were transporting cattle and accordingly launched an operation.

After chasing them, the criminals opened fire at the police, following which in retaliation police fired several rounds on them resulting in the death of one smuggler.

The others two, who were injured in the firing, were immediately rushed to the Dhubri Civil Hospital.
