TINSUKIA: Mystery shrouds the death of a brilliant student at IIT Kharagpur who hailed from Hijuguri, Tinsukia. Though the Kharagpur police claimed it to be a case of suicide, the parents are suspecting foul play. They demanded a CBI inquiry as the body was recovered by police after 3 days from the hostel room and in a semi-decomposed state with marks of injury on head and other parts of the body and were informed by anonymous callers after 4 days of the incident. They are now moving from pillar to post for justice.

Alleging an indifferent attitude on the part of the officials from Kharagpur Town Police Station and IIT Kharagpur, the parents in a press meet at Tinsukia on Tuesday alleged that their only son Faizan Ahmed (23) who was studying 3rd year Computer Science was allegedly murdered inside Lala Rajpat Rai hostel room and remained unnoticed for three days till foul odour emanated from the room. The hostel to which Faizan shifted from Rajendra Prasad Hostel just a couple of days prior to incident.

The mother of Faizan, Rehena Ahmed told that they last talked with her son on Tuesday evening after that they lost all contact and only on Friday they were informed that Faizan was critically sick and later about his death by suicide. The father, Salim Ahmed told that the officials of Kharagpur Town Police Station declined to issue receipt copy of the FIR submitted on 15.10.2022 and even refused to hand over his cell phone. The parents even met with the DM of West Medinipur Ayesha Rani A for justice.

Sharing the contact numbers- 9932900222, 9147888642, 9434721888 from where calls were made to the parents, Salim Ahmed informed that he had written a letter to Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister seeking a high level inquiry and proper justice. He also alleged that the IIT authority along with police attempted to harsh up the incident and deliberately informed the parents late allowing the body to decompose beyond recognition. The parents even asked for DNA test as the face was completely unrecognizable.

Monoj Borah, a leading social activist of Tinsukia who was also present at the press meet demanded the Government of Assam to take up the issue and to bring the perpetrators to justice besides to ensure that the parents of Assam can safely send their wards for higher studies outside the State. He urged the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to recommend a CBI inquiry into the alleged murder of Faizan Ahmed.
