LAKHIMPUR: In order to unearth the exact cause behind the mysterious death of Sub-Inspector Junmoni Rabha, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team, led by DIG Lovely Katiyar on Tuesday arrived in Lakhimpur district for further investigation.

Notably, the notorious deeds of the fake gold and fake Indian currency note (FICN) smuggling racket and alleged link of the same with a section of Assam Police Officers came to light after the mysterious death of Junmoni Rabha and it drew extensive reaction across the State. The CBI team arrived in Lakhimpur to investigate about all the aspects in this connection. Just after the arrival, the CBI team intensified its investigation and interrogated Amina Khatun at Borsola on Tuesday. Amina Khatun is the mother of Ajgar Ali.

Ajgar Ali is among those who are allegedly involved in fake gold and FICN smuggling rackets and surrendered before the police in Lakhimpur after SP Ananda Mishra had taken charge. Amina Khatun filed a case against SI Junmoni Rabha at North Lakhimpur police station on May 15 (a day prior to her death). The case, lodged under charges of criminal conspiracy, dacoity, wrongful confinement and extortion, alleged that on the wee hours of May 6, Rabha had reached Khatun’s house along with seven civilians and had thrashed her son Ajgar and took him away. It was alleged that Rabha took Rs 80,000 in cash, gold earrings of Ajgar’s wife and also an SUV belonging to Ajgar’s elder brother. It was further stated that later on May 6, Rabha asked Khatun to give her Rs 6 lakh if she wanted her son Ajgar and the SUV back. The complainant also alleged that she gave the police officer Rs 5.10 lakh in cash and the rest Rs 90,000 through online transaction following which Ajgar was released, and the SUV returned.

On the other hand, the CBI team summoned different persons to North Lakhimpur Circuit House on Wednesday. Among them were Laluk Police Station Circle Inspector VI Maleswar, Bongalmora Police Outpost In-Charge Raj Kumar Pegu. Moreover, Ajgar’s brother Abu Talib and two women were also summoned. On the same day, the CBI team also quizzed Hasina Begum, who hit the news headlines by revealing the alleged link of fake gold and FICN smuggling rackets with a section of Assam Police Officers. However, the CBI team has not summoned former Lakhimpur ASP Runa Neog and Naoboicha Police Outpost in-charge Sanjib Borah till date.
