Dibrugarh: Central Trade Union and the units of employees’ federations jointly called a nationwide general strike on January 8 in support of their 13-point charter of demands.
Assam State secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), in a press communiqué, said that the demands included abrogation of CAA and steps to be taken to arrest the steep price hike of all essential commodities.
Amongst others, the prominent demands are effective steps to be taken for creating large-scale employment opportunity by suitable utilizing of national resources, stopping the scrapping of rights of the workers in the name of reformation of labour law and to ensure pension for all section of workers by scrapping the New Pension Scheme (NPS), revival of both Jagiroad and Cachar Paper Mills and to clear all pending salaries and other dues of the employees of paper mills, ensuring daily wage of Rs 351 to tea garden labourers as per the resolution approved by the Labour department of the State Government and scrapping all anti-peasant clauses as enshrined in the new land policy of the State Government and ending requisition of plantation land for non-plantation activity.
