GUWAHATI: Two 15.6 km long twin road under the river Brahmaputra in
Assam would be constructed as the central government and Directorate of
Military Operations have given their approval.
According to reports, this tunnel will be constructed from Gohpur to Numaligarh.
The report said that two lanes would be built 22 meter below the river. The total length of the tunnel will be 33 km.
Sources from the government said that from December 2021 the construction work would be start and expected to finish the work within two year.
Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highway will provide fund for this project.
About Rs 12, 807 crores would be spent to build the road under the river Brahmaputra which will protect the Kaziranga National Park.
This will also strengthen the connectivity of Arunachal Pradesh with rest parts of India
According to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), both the tunnels will be interlinked to facilitate evacuation in case of an accident or any other emergency. The tunnels will have an electrical substation, sensors, and CCTVs to monitor vehicular movement.
After the construction of this tunnel the distance between Numaligarh to Gohpur will reduce from 223km to around 180 km.
In the tunnels, vehicles will be able to move at a speed of 70 to 80 km per hour. Through the tunnels, the supply of military vehicles, logistics, and strategic goods will be made to the border with Arunachal Pradesh.Also Watch:
