DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of the Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU), May Day was observed at Beesakopie TE, near here, on Saturday.

The May Day flag was hoisted by Comrade Jatan Tanti in presence of members of Akhil Bhartiya Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ABCMS), Hindustan Unilever Workers' Union and some others unions having affiliations under CITU. Later, Comrade Jatan Tanti and Comrade Kripa Nath Sonowal addressed the gathering and highlighted the relevance of May Day in the context of prevailing political and economic scenario.

May Day was also observed at Phillobari, about 22 KM away from here. After hoisting of the flag, Comrade Drono Charingia Phukan, district secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist), addressed the gathering and dwelt on the significance of May Day in the present day context of economic hardship of people. In view of current situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic, the day was observed by strictly following COVID protocol and avoiding large gathering for the celebration.
