Centre for New Learning celebrates silver jubilee in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR: The Centre for New Learning (CNL), Bengtol in Chirang district on Saturday celebrated the silver jubilee of the school with a day-long colorful programme in the premises of the school. The CNL is being run by Good Earth Education Trust, Bengtol and it produces the highest number of qualitative students in matriculation examination every year in Chirang district.

As part of the programme, the lighting of lamp of the jubilee celebration was done by State WPT&BC and Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma. He also released the souvenir Silver Bright brought out on the occasion followed by traditional dance and felicitation of outstanding students and founder staff.

In his address, minister Brahma hailed the founder and staff of CNL. He said that Chirang district was far behind in the tally of matriculation examination due to different reasons. CNL could produce highest pass percentage by providing required facilities to the students and it was now considered to be one of the best educational institutions in the district, he said, adding that the school would play a pivotal role in producing more quality students. He also said that he would extend support towards the extension of school to higher secondary level and required infrastructure.

Talking to this reporter, the chairman of Good Earth Education Trust and proprietor of CNL, Dominic Basumatary said the school was started on a small plot of land at Bengtol on February 24, 1994 initially in a rented house. He said the genesis of CNL and inspiration to set up school came from Fr. Joseph Zubizaretta, the founder of Bengtol Catholic Mission.

“The CNL is an English medium school under CBSE run by Good Earth Education Trust and it endeavours to provide quality education to the children of the interior areas of Chirang district,” he said. He added that his mission was to promote peace, equity and resourcefulness among the tribals, Adivasis and other deprived communities in the Northeast through value-based education and alternative means of livelihood.
