DIBRUGARH: At an event organized at Swanirbhar Complex, Tipling, Duliajan, 150 women trainees of OIL’s Centre of Excellence for handicraft handloom & entrepreneurship (COE) were awarded NSDC, Government of India and FICCI recognized course completion certificates on Wednesday.
The certificates issued were in the trades of handloom- creative textiles made with natural dyes and handicraft- bamboo and water hyacinth. Post completion, these trainees belonging to OIL’s operational areas will now be part of the two cooperative societies developed by Oil India Rural Development Society (OIRDS) under the aegis of OIL’s CSR to start their entrepreneurial journey.
The event was graced by U N Jena, RCE (officiating), Rajeev Baruah, ED-HR&A, President -OIRDS and other senior officials of OIL Management, OIRDS and PA Department. Addressing the gathering, U N Jena said that OIL’s continuous support to promotion of local handicraft and handloom is a testament of the company’s commitment to develop the region by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities.
COE, an initiative by OIRDS, has been successfully implementing innovative interventions towards socio- economic empowerment of rural women in OIL’s operational area since 1984. The centre’s activities are also in alignment with Govt. of India’s effort towards promoting ‘Lifestyle for Environment’.
