GUWAHATI, Jan 16: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary laid the foundation stone of Shree Pawan Group of Industries' kraft paper mill and polypipes unit at Kamalpur, Baihata Chariali on Saturday.

Envisaged to be the largest kraft paper factory in North East, its manufacturing capacity will be of 250 tons per day with pulping capacity of 320 tons per day. It will also manufacture four forms of polypipes - gas pipes, water pipes, PLB Duct Pipes and PPR Pipes.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister Patowary said, "Government of India's gas grid project from Barauni to Guwahati and crude oil pipeline from Paradip to Numaligarh has made ancillary pipeline units as a viable option to flourish and sustain."

He referred to the global investors' summit, Advantage Assam which helped rope in investment worth Rs. 65,000 crores and generating 4 lakh direct employment and 12 lakh indirect employment. In the coming days, the gas pipeline would change the industrial scenario of the state. He hoped that this industrial unit would too help in generating local employment thereby developing the rural economy without impacting the surrounding agriculture.

Emphasizing that 21st century will move only on start-ups, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and Internet of Everything, Minister Patowary said, "Schooling doesn't ensure employment, skilling does. In a matter of two years, Assam Skill Development Mission has been able to secure the 4th rank in the country and Assam Startup, as one of the successful incubation centres of India."

Addressing the local people of Alta village, Kamalpur, Minister Patowary urged them to do agar and bamboo cultivation. "The International Agar Centre at Golaghat will serve as a rightful platform for the agarwood planters, producers and entrepreneurs, augmenting the growth and prosperity of agar industry in Assam. On the other hand, farmers who harvest bamboo will be benefited from the production of the incense's bamboo sticks," he said.

MP Dilip Saikia deliberated that industry is the economic base of the country and hoped that the industrial plant will bring about a revolutionary change in the rural economy.
