Charaideo Medical College Will Be Completed Within 36 Months: Assam CM

Assam Chief Minister visited the construction site of Charaideo Medical College and stated that it will get ready in the coming 36 months

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday visited the ongoing construction site of the Charaideo Medical College, which will be constructed on 100 bigha of land at Rajapukhuri, Charaideo.

The said medical college will have a seating capacity of 100 students and it will be finished within 36 months.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Himanta said, ''Visited the construction site of Charaideo Medical College, being built on 100 bigha land at Rajapukhuri, Charaideo. It will have a 100-student seat capacity. The project, worth Rs 467.66 cr, will be completed within 36 months. Its physical progress as of date is 13%.

He further instructed the authorities to speed up the process. As Assam is located in an earthquake-prone zone, CM stressed that current earthquake resistance technology must be used. Further, he requested that the OPD lobby be made bigger so that patients and their attendants can be appropriately accommodated

He also inquired about the availability of paying cabins and emphasized the importance of careful planning for future academic expansion of the medical college, including the inclusion of nursing and dental institutions.

"We are working hard to make Charaideo one of Assam's top districts" Sarma added.

In another tweet, he mentioned that the government is planning for the construction of New DC Court, stadium, and more in Assam.

Last year Chief Minister also shared the 3D views of the proposed Charaideo Medical College.

Himanta Biswa Sarma had previously announced infrastructure projects worth over Rs 10,000 crore on September 12. The project consists of four medical colleges: one in Charaideo, another in Biswanath Chariali, and a third in Goalpara. The fourth will be established in Guwahati.

The state government has agreed to combine the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) with the Kalaphar TB Hospital to become a second medical college in Guwahati. The new medical college in Guwahati will have 1300 beds, making it the largest in eastern India (800 beds in MMCH and 500 beds in Kalapahar Hospital.
