DIBRUGARH: With an aim to bring about uniformity in hiring charges of private ambulances and hearse van (dead body carrying van), plying from Dibrugarh to other destinations of the State and other neighbouring States like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and various destination points in Dibrugarh district, the Regional Transport Authority of India approved the rate of hire charges of such vans at a meeting held recently at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office here.

The DTO, Dibrugarh and other members of the RTO board, in presence of Assistant Commissioner (in-charge of Traffic), earlier had a detailed discussion with the private ambulance owners and representatives of various nursing homes of the town at the DTO office over various aspects regarding fixation of ambulance and dead body carrying van charges. After a prolonged discussion, the DTO had fixed the fares of ambulances amicably and forwarded the draft proposal to the chairman-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Pallav Gopal Jha for approval.

Jha hoped that uniform hiring of ambulances and dead body carrying vehicles would help both stakeholders immensely. Jha asked the DTO, Sanjeeb Hazarika to display the chart at the premises of all nursing homes and other prominent places of the town so that those who hire ambulances or hearse vans would not be duped by any unscrupulous elements. He further stated that all operators of ambulances and hearse vans must issue proper receipts against all charges. Any discrepancy, if found, would invite legal action. He also suggested both traffic and transport officials to keep a strict vigil for successful implementation of the new fare structure.
