Chief Minister acts against Barak’s interest: Congress chief Bhupen Bora

SILCHAR: The BJP government had betrayed the Barak Valley as two of its Assembly segments had been chopped off due to the recent delimitation, alleged state Congress chief Bhupen Bora. Addressing the media persons after the party’s ‘Hath se Hath Jodo’ programme in Cachar, Bora said, the Barak Valley had showered its love and faith in the last four Assembly and Lok Sabha elections but the ruling party had paid back in such a way that could only be compared with betrayal. Bora pointed fingers at Himanta Biswa Sarma as he said, the Chief Minister had openly admitted that the recent delimitation was done as per his desire, and hence it was evident that it was Sarma who was instrumental in depriving the Barak Valley of its two Assembly segments. “It is now the time for the people of Barak Valley to pay back the Chief Minister in his own coin,” Bora retorted.

The State Congress president further said, the recent comment of the Chief Minister on separate Barak Valley issue was ploy of the BJP government to create fissures between the two valleys.

Bora termed the current CM Vigilance drive against MLA Kamalakha Dey Purkayastha for purchasing a tea garden, as ‘act of political vendetta’. Bora said, it was nothing new that the BJP government, both at the Centre as well as well the state misused the constitutional institutes like the CBI and ED to thwart the voices of the opposition. Himanta Biswa Sarma had moved a bit further as he let loose the CM vigilance cell to Purkayastha for a deal which did not even fall under its jurisdiction, Bora said. Purkayastha was much vocal against the misdeeds of the State government and hence to teach him a lesson, the CM Vigilance cell was being badly misused, Bora added. He said, Purkayastha had openly welcomed the investigation as he was confident of his honesty.
