TEZPUR: After providing bicycles and scooties to students, the Chief Minister has now proposed to provide scooties to a section of school teachers.

Distributing bicycles to Class IX students at Tezpur on Friday, the Chief Minister said, “It has come to our attention that some teachers staying far away from their schools cannot reach for duty on time. It spoils the valuable time of the students. I propose that the Education Minister contemplate providing scooties to such teachers. If we provide scooties to around one lakh teachers, that will cost Rs 500 crore. That doesn’t matter insofar as the wellbeing of the students is concerned”.

He said, “We have provided bicycles costing around Rs 161 crore to around 3.7 lakh class IX students. We will also provide bicycles to the students of class VIII next year. The purpose is to develop the benchmark of education and educational infrastructure so as to give birth to a renaissance of education in the state.”

The system of providing scooties to girl students passing higher secondary examinations and securing above 60 percent of marks is prevalent in the state.

He said that the recruitment of teachers is going on and in the current year, 10 thousand more teachers will be inducted. The Chief Minister also said that for promotion of academic landscape of the state, State government is implementing amalgamation process. This amalgamation process is infusing more quality and accountability into the system.

Dr. Sarma said that after 75 years of independence, the present State government is setting up high schools in tea garden areas. He called upon the students to pay their attention to studies and do good results and become good human assets. He also asked the students to show adequate respect to their parents.

Minister for Education Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal, MP Pallab Lochan Das, MLAs Padma Hazarika, Prithviraj Rabha, Ganesh Limbu, Krishna Kamal Tanti, Secretary Higher Education Narayan Konwar and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
