TINSUKIA: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Sadiya on Friday to examine the extent of damage on NH-37 posed by erosion of River Kundil.

Addressing the media persons later, he exhorted the efforts of local persons, MLA Bolin Chetia and MP Pradhan Baruah in saving the highway from being breached. Expressing concern over the havoc caused by the second wave of flood that affected 28 districts claiming 134 deaths, including 26 due to landslides, he announced that for the first time after Independence, a comprehensive and holistic plan had been envisaged to develop a permanent solution to flood and erosion in entire Northeast by constituting the North East Water Management Authority under the vice-chairman of the NITI Aaayog.
