LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister's Institutional Plantation Programme (CMIPP) was inaugurated in Lakhimpur district on Monday. On this occasion a ceremonial programme was organized in the district planetarium premises, which has been under construction at present.

Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling of an invaluable tree in the planetarium premises. Notably, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the CMIPP as a statewide programme at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati on July 17. The programme will run up to August 15 under the auspices of the Science, Technology and Climate Change Department covering more than 80,000 institutional campuses under the Government of Assam. Under CMIPP, native saplings will be planted, geotagged and uploaded on the web portal followed by proper care and monitoring for the next 3 years.

The Chief Minister urged all institutions to plant 75 saplings (Amrit Briksha) coinciding with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and transform CMIPP into Amrit Briksha Mahotsav. Lakhimpur district administration has initiated special steps to realize the programme as per Chief Minister's dream by planting saplings of native and invaluable trees in the government institution premises. District Development Commissioner Manoj Kumar Baruah, ADC Sanjib Doloi, CMIPP District Nodal Officer Kulbhushan Pegu and district officers of the government departments along with the employees took part in the programme and planted saplings of trees in the planetarium premises.

The CMIPP drive was also launched in Lakhimpur Commerce College on the same day. As part of the programme, a massive plantation drive under was initiated in the college premises. The CMIPP drive was inaugurated by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college with the planting of a sapling inside the main campus of the institution in North Lakhimpur. A brief speech was delivered on CMIPP by MC Bhagawati, senior teacher of the college. AC Barman of Political Science coordinated the programme.

TINSUKIA: Along with rest of the State, the Tinsukia district administration implemented plantation programme under Chief Minister's Institutional Plantation Programme at DC office premises on Monday. Initiated by the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia Narsing Pawar, all the officials planted each sapling with tag mark. The plantation programme will continue till August 15. The plantation programme will encompasses all government institutions, Parishad, local corporations etc.

TEZPUR: The Chief Minister's Institutional Plantation Programme for Sonitpur district was ceremoniously launched by Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra from Tezpur Convention Centre at Batamari, Tezpur on Monday morning in the presence of DDC Utpal Bora, ADCs Romy Baruah, Dyotiva Bora, Addl SP Madhurima Das, Assistant Commissioners Namrata Das, Kabita Phangchoi, Barsha Talukdar, other senior district administration officials and heads of various government departments. Later, a plantation drive was also done at DC office premises. Simultaneously, plantation drives were also carried out in all government offices, MBs, and various government educational institutions.

The prime objective of the programme is to have an enhanced carbon stock, conserve suitable native species and also to enhance greenery and beautification of the premises of all offices under Government of Assam. Geo-tagged photos of all saplings will have to be subsequently uploaded in the dedicated portal created for the purpose.

KOKRAJHAR: Plantation of sapling was done at the office of BTC Secretariat on Monday. The plantation programme was started by Naren Ch. Basumatary, Secretary; BTC in presence of Jatin Bora, Secretary; Pami Brahma ACS, Jt. Secretary; Bhashkar jyoti Rajbongsh, Jt. Secretary; and other officers and staff of BTC Secretariat on Monday.
