Child Abuse Case: Dr Sangeeta Datta’s Personal Assistant Arrested For ‘Arranging’ The Children

GUWAHATI: Another prime accused of the Guwahati child-abuse case, Utpala Bose, the personal assistant of Dr Sangeeta Datta, was arrested by city police late Friday night.

Bose is reportedly suspected of having ‘arranged’ the adoption of the victim minor children by the accused doctor couple, Dr Sangeeta Datta and Dr Walliul Islam.

Bose is reportedly the personal assistant of Dr Sangeeta Datta, the psychiatrist accused in the heinous child abuse case.

According to reports, Utpala Bose surrendered at the Paltanbazar Police Station on Friday night and was arrested. She is said to be the one who allegedly made arrangement of the children to be taken on surrogacy basis by the doctor couple.

However, the city police have not yet made any official statement on the arrest.

The doctor couple, Dr Waliul Islam and Dr Sangeeta Datta, is being accused of torturing their adopted minor daughter almost regularly.

The two of them are known quite well in their respective fields among the medical fraternity in Guwahati.

Allegedly, the ‘torture’ of the minor girl had been going on for months, but the matter came into the light only recently when a neighbour approached the police regarding this. Photos of the girl, tied up and left on the terrace in the sunlight, were also made available to the police.

Residents of Manipuri Basti of Guwahati, the couple have been accused of physically abusing the minor girl and they often tied her up on the rooftop of their apartment complex as punishment.

Dr Sangeeta Datta claimed that she was the victim of a conspiracy, along with her husband Dr Islam.

She claimed that someone wanted to destroy their successful careers and was jealous of them.

The ‘adopted’ daughter’s private parts of the minor were burnt with cigarettes by Guwahati-based doctor couple Dr Sangeeta Datta and Dr Waliul Islam.

This was confirmed after necessary medical tests of the victim minor girl were carried out, the Assam police said.

According to Guwahati commissioner of police Diganta Barah, “The minor girl child was kept captive at the fourth floor of Roma Enclave, the residence of the doctor couple. The 3-year-old baby girl bore injury and burnt marks on her private parts and bruises on many parts of her body. During medical examination, it was also found that the toddler’s private parts were burned with cigarettes.”
