TANGLA: "A dog is a man's best friend'. Taking the phrase literally during the pandemic and in an humble effort to provide respite to stray dogs from hunger, a number of citizens have taken up the initiative of feeding stray animals in their localities, and are inspiring others in their neighbourhood to do the same in Tangla town of Udalguri district.

Businessman Ajit Das and social worker Jintu Pathak took up the Herculean task of feeding the stray dogs of Tangla town on Tuesday night. "The stray dogs are dying of hunger as the hotels and restaurants are closed due to the lockdown so we prepared khichdi for the stray dogs and fed nearly 40-50 stray dogs across Tangla town of Udalguri district," said social worker, Jintu Pathak. "We want to convey message to the people to feed the stray animals in their localities during the pandemic," he added.

"I run a hotel business and as the hotels and restaurants are closed, the stray dogs are not getting food. So we decided to go for a feeding drive and inspire others to come forward and feed the dog of their localities," said businessman Ajit Das.

A 22-year old youth, Wajid Khan said that he had not skipped even a day to feed stray dogs in his locality. "I feed around 10 dogs in my locality. While it is not safe to go around the town due to the pandemic, we can at least start doing this in our own neighbourhood," he added.
