Hailakandi: The City Livelihood Centre (CLC) was inaugurated by Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya in Hailakandi town on Monday. Speaking at a function organised on the occasion at Hailakandi Municipal Office, Minister Suklabaidya said the coming up of the CLC would enable the urban poor to offer their goods and services in an organized manner to the potential buyers. The minister exuded optimism that the CLC would strive to bridge the gap between demand and supply of goods and services produced by the urban poor.

Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli hoped the CLC would help reduce poverty and vulnerability of the SHG families and urban poor by connecting them to gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities. “The CLC is a platform where product/service providers and seekers will come together for getting mutual benefit and sustainable income opportunity,” said Executive Officer, Hailakandi Municipal Board, Prodip Timung.

The City Livelihood Centre will also work as a platform for self-help groups (SHGs). Officials said that the SHGs functioning in the municipal areas will now have “a permanent address— a one-stop-shop where they can sell their products and services.” Set up under the Centre’s Deen Dayal Antodaya-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), the CLC will enable the urban poor to access information and business support services, as and when required.
