TINSUKIA: With an objective to uplift culture and rural development encompassing Laipuli-Dimoruguri areas in Tinsukia district, few energetic youths collectively decided to form a club that would look into public issues of the area. In this regard a public meeting was held recently at Laipuli Indira Gandhi High School with noted academician Amrit Rajkhowa in the chair.

The convener of the meeting, Hirkhojyoti Neog narrated how successive governments since Independence had perpetually neglected the area. Even elected representatives showed apathetic attitude towards development of the area, said aggrieved Neog. Among those who addressed the gathering were noted writer Photic Chandra Neog, gaon burahs of Laipuli-Dimoruguri and Kaptanchuk Sanit Chetia and Debakanta Gohain, teacher Robin Neog and Mulendra Nath Chetia.

The speakers unanimously opined to constitute a forum and accordingly a club was formed and christened as 'Udipta Club'. A 31-member committee was constituted with Hirkhojyoti Neog as president and Girin Borpatragohain as secretary while the meeting selected Photik Chandra Neog, Jadav Rajkhowa, Mulendra Nath Chetia, Amrit Rajkhowa, Debakanta Gohain and Sonit Chetia as advisors.
