TINSUKIA: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed 22,674 cheques to waive microfinance loans availed by women of Tinsukia district at Janamukh Field Borguri on Friday under Assam Micro-finance Incentives and Relief Scheme, 2021 (AMFIRS) at a function organized by Tinsukia district administration.

The beneficiaries are being provided with a one-time incentive up to Rs 25,000 or the outstanding balance, whichever is less, to incentivize them to continue maintaining good credit discipline for those who were unable to pay the loan but making regular payments to the banks, Sarma said. While 5,000 beneficiaries got the cheques in today's programme, the other beneficiaries will collect their cheques from their respective blocks.

While presenting the cheques, the Chief Minister exhorted the beneficiaries to make good use of the financial incentive to strengthen their business ventures, informing further that the process of distribution of cheques would be completed within May 10.

He regretted that even after 75 years, the people of Assam could not achieve self-sufficiency despite having huge commercial potential. He called upon everyone to imbibe work culture and to become workaholic so that in the next 10 years, Assam will become the most progressive State in the country. Exhorting to augment income in modest ways, Sarma urged upon the rural households to engage themselves in egg production, piggery and other products endemic to this region.

The meeting was attended by Guardian Minister Atul Bora, Minister for Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare Department Sanjay Kishan, besides officials of the district administration.
