NAMRUP: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL),Namrup, the only gas-based fertilizer enterprise in Asia which was established in the 1960s, and announced: "The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for Namrup-III and Namrup-IV units and the State Government will bear 26% of the capital expenditure and we are waiting for a good outcome."

The Chief Minister also inspected the infrastructure of the hospital of BVFCL and said that the hospital is very old and its equipments are outdated. However, he said, the Assam Government is preparing to refurbish the hospital with new technology in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). An estimate of Rs 3.50 crore has already been prepared for this and renovation of the hospital will start from February-March from this estimated budget, Sarma said.

Regarding the increase in the number of COVID-19 infections, the Chief Minister said that the number of is increasing day by day. However, the rules and regulations will have to be tightened somewhat to ensure that life and livelihood are not disrupted. The Chief Minister said that if two doses of the vaccine have been administered then there is no reason to worry. But so far, 60 lakh people in Assam have still not taken the vaccine.

On the other hand, in the context of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha convention, the Chief Minister said that if the number of COVID-19 patients increase, then the convention will be postponed.

Chairman Cum Managing Director of BVFCL Siba Prasad Mohanty said that power consumption of the second unit is increasing the cost of production. Mohanty said that the Government has agreed to give Rs 2.50 crore for the Nano urea plant. He said that the additional 15 MW power generated by two captive power plants of BVFCL would be traded with the Assam Electricity Generation Corporation Limited (AEGCL) (Grid) and BVFCL would earn a profit of Rs.32 crore.

Union Minister Rameswar Teli, MLA Teros Gowala, Sports and Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora, Tea Tribes Welfare & Labour Minister Sanjay Kishan and MLA Jogen Mohan accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit.
