MANGALDAI: Amidst the devastated and unchanged flood situation in Darrang district for the third consecutive day, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday made an on the spot visit to the flood-affected areas of the district to assess the gravity of the situation.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma reached the breached stretch of the embankment of Nonoi River at Kalitapara village near Dipila under Patharighat Revenue Circle of Sipajhar LAC by road and interacted with the flood-affected villagers. On his return, he visited the breached stretch of Saktola river at Bor Athiabari village under Mangaldai Revenue Circle. He also inspected the submerged stretch of NH 15 from Piporadokan to Saktola which was caused for the second time by the breach of the embankment of Saktola River at Bor Athiabari village.

Interacting with the media persons, Chief Minister Dr Sarma said that there would be no scarcity of relief materials for the flood-affected people. "I have instructed the district administration to extend all possible help to the flood-affected villagers at this hour of crisis. The district administration will ensure supply of adequate quantity of relief materials, rescue operations and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people. In addition to the existing strength of the SDRF personnel already engaged in flood duty, additional manpower of the SDRF will be deployed in Darrang district," said the visiting Chief Minister. He also assured that the breached embankments would be reconstructed adopting the scientific technology.

State BJP President Bhabesh Kalita, Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, Sipajhar legislator Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, former legislator Guru Jyoti Das, Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sarma accompanied the Chief Minister and accorded a hearty welcome to the district.
