BONGAIGAON: "There was a time when people used to be afraid of going to the police station. This was during the tenure of the Congress government. But now, during the tenure of the BJP government, people will not feel like that. Instead of being afraid, people will feel safe and secure in police station," said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday in Bongaigaon while inaugurating the new building of Bongaigaon police station. Along with the new building of Bongaigaon police station, he also virtually inaugurated Manikpur Police Station built under MOITRI scheme in the district.

Sonowal highlighted the Assam Government's steps for making the State corruption-free. He lauded the Assam Police for its role in curbing corruption and said that steps taken by the government for improving infrastructure of police stations significantly improved work culture. He further said that as a result of the State Government's anti-corruption measures, administration had become more transparent and people had regained their confidence in the administrative machinery.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also inaugurated a dairy processing and packaging plant in Bongaigaon district on Tuesday. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would launch implementation of a project for capacity augmentation of Bongaigaon Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited from its existing 2.5 MMT to 5 MMT in a programme centrally to be held at Silapathar in Dhemaji district on February 22. This project will be implemented with a financial outlay of Rs. 10,000 crore.

Chief Minister Sonowal, while speaking on the occasion in a meeting held at Bongaigaon College playground, said that the Assam Government undertook a number of initiatives to transform Bongaigaon as an industrial district of the State. He said that the development journey of the district would receive a major boost with completion of the Multimodel Logistics Park and other initiatives like Formalin Plant at Boitamari, Engineering College at Bongaigaon.
