GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday laid the foundation stone of a police reserve and inaugurated its construction work at Pani Bhoral in Biswanath district. The police reserve will be built at a plot of land measuring 51 bigha involving Rs 91 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that immediately after coming to power in 2016, the BJP-led State government has been on its feet to strengthen infrastructure of the police department and empower the police forces technologically. He said that once the police reserve is complete, the police forces in Biswanth district will be able to provide their services on 24x7 basis.
He said that construction of police reserve would improve quality of lives and law and order in the district. Sonowal said though the police forces have been working dedicatedly to protect lives and properties of the State, the previous Congress government had never paid any heed to empower the police forces. The police personnel had to perform their services under strenuous condition without much support from the government. However, the BJP-led government took powerful steps to empower the police forces. Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his visionary idea of SMART police programme, police stations have been upgraded and renovated under MOITRI scheme, the Chief Minister said.
Giving a snapshot of all the welfare programmes of his government, Sonowal said that right from laying new roads to setting up higher educational institutions, the government has brought about overall development of all sections of the people. He also said that contrary to the dismal performance of the previous Congress government, his government with a view to provide social security to the people took series of schemes and programmes and to build and promote a social development narrative in Assam. He also maintained that his government will be unrelenting in empowering the people of the state especially the weaker sections of the society.
Emphasizing on transformation through transportation, Sonowal said that during the rule of BJP-led government in Assam, infrastructure of transportation has undergone a sea change. Besides improving the condition of national highways and expansion of existing high ways, there has been unprecedented development of railways in the state. Besides introduction of new trains, gauge conversion, electrification and laying of new tracks have lent both speed and convenience to the transportation of passengers and freight.
