GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday held a review meeting with the Tinsukia district administration officials at Tinsukia Deputy Commissioners' conference hall for assessing the preparedness to tackle the latest wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the district. He was apprised about the various steps taken by the district administration and health department officials to control the situation.

Stressing on the need to create mass awareness about maintaining COVID-19 protocols, Sonowal directed for engaging panchayat members, BDOs, village heads and NGOs in making the people at the grassroots aware about the rising coronavirus cases and instructed DC Tinsukia to take steps to circulate the health department protocols through mike announcements. He also emphasised on the importance of carrying out COVID-19 tests on truck drivers bringing goods into Tinsukia from different places while organising awareness drives at the market areas.

Sonowal directed for taking steps to conduct tests on incoming flight and train passengers and urged the district administration to increase awareness about taking the vaccines by all eligible beneficiaries. He also directed for keeping adequate beds, oxygen cylinders etc at the hospitals ready for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameswsar Teli, MP Tapan Gogoi, DC and SP Tinsukia along with health and other department officials were present in the meeting.

Later talking to the newspersons, the Chief Minister said that tests have been conducted on the incoming flight and train passengers into the State and if anyone is found COVID positive then they have been kept in isolation. He sought support and cooperation from the public in successfully managing the latest wave of COVID-19 in Assam while assuring that all necessary steps like increasing tests, providing vaccines to target groups, stocking oxygen cylinders etc have been taken.

He also called on the Bihu organisers and artistes to maintain all COVID-19 protocols so that no one is affected by the pandemic due to Bihu celebrations, stated a release.
