CM Sarma dedicates RCC bridge on Barama-Dhamdhama-Tamulpur road to people

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday dedicated the newly-constructed RCC Bridge on the Barama-Dhamdhama-Tamulpur Road at Jartaluk in the Tamulpur district to the service of the people at a function held at Tamulpur.

KOKRAJHAR: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday dedicated the newly-constructed RCC Bridge on the Barama-Dhamdhama-Tamulpur Road at Jartaluk in the Tamulpur district to the service of the people at a function held at Tamulpur.

The foundation of the bridge was laid on February 26, 2021. The bridge has been constructed with financial outlay of Rs. 29,57,05,739 under SOPD-G. The length of the bridge is 193.480 metre. The bridge connects Tamulpur with Baksa district directly where there was no alternative route to connect these two districts earlier.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarma said that with the inauguration of the bridge, the connectivity of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) will get a new momentum. Now transportation between Tamulpur and Baksa will be very convenient and the distance and time taken can be brought down drastically. With the help of this bridge over River Pagladia at least 25, 000 people across the river will be directly benefitted.

The Chief Minister on the occasion also announced that the 26-km road from Dhamdhama to Tamulpur will be turned into a double-lane road under Asom Mala project. Sarma said that both the State Government and BTC have been working unrelentingly to expedite the socio-economic and academic development of BTR. He said that the construction of the Rs-600 crore Tamulpur Medical College and Hospital is going on in full swing. Once dedicated, the medical college and hospital will greatly cater to health and education of the people belonging to the BTR areas especially.

The Chief Minister on the occasion also announced a slew of projects like the establishment of Rs 25-crore integrated DC Office at Tamulpur and Rs 5-crore circuit house at Tamulpur and a Rs 50-crore stadium at Tamulpur district.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a District Sports Complex at Mushalpur in Baksa district. Covering an area of 40 bighas of land, this state-of-the-art modern sports complex, with a project cost of approximately Rs 43 crore shall have facilities such as synthetic athletic track, multipurpose indoor stadium with facilities for badminton, table tennis, volleyball, taekwondo, among others. These apart, it will also house an Olympic-size swimming pool.

Addressing a public meeting at Mushalpur correlating with the event, Chief Minister Sarma exuded confidence the stadium complex, on completion of its construction, shall provide a huge boost to the momentum of growth, development and peace BTR has been witnessing for the past couple of years. The sports complex, along with numerous other developmental measures being undertaken in BTR, shall be able to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of BTR to a large extent.

Speaking about the upcoming advertisements for filling up of as many as 5,600 vacancies in Assam Police, the Chief Minister appealed to the youths of BTR to make best use of this employment opportunity by applying for the same. He also made an appeal to the unemployed youths of BTR to tread the path of entrepreneurship by applying for financial assistance under the Mukhya Mantri Atmanirbhar Asom scheme. He also touched upon subjects such as microfinance loan waivers which have been of immense relief for debt-ridden women, the initiatives being taken to provide ration cards to those who are yet to be covered under it, among others.

State Handloom and Textile Minister UG Brahma, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Promod Boro, Principal Secretary of BTC, Akash Deep, along with a host of other dignitaries, were also present.
