JAGIROAD: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday dedicated the new building of Jagiroad police station under Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme at a programme held at Jagiroad. With the inauguration of the new building, infrastructural facilities have been put in place for overall improvement of the police station, re-dedicating the force to the service of people and creating people-friendly environment with a modern scientific human approach.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the present State Government took a pragmatic step for the infrastructural development of the police stations to enable the police forces to work in accordance with the changing dynamics of the commission of crime. He further said that the previous State Governments only sought services from the police forces without any corresponding infrastructural and technological support to them. However, the MOITRI scheme being implemented throughout the State had been in a position to aid the police forces to empower themselves with regard to submitting the charge sheet expeditiously, delivery of the justice processes for justice to both victims and culprits.
Sonowal also said that Assam Police had become a part of discussion because of its professionalism and commitment. The Assam Police personnel have been working dedicatedly in securing the lives and properties of the people of the State. He also recalled the police personnel who died on duty while serving the people.
Welcome address of the programme was given by Superintendent of Police, Morigaon Dr. Nanda Singh Borkala. Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, PijushHazarika and Additional DGP (Law and Order) GP Singh also spoke on the occasion. MLA of Morigaon, RamakantaDeuri, chairman of Assam Minorities Development Board, MominulAwal, managing director of Assam Police Housing Development Corporation Limited, ArabindaKalita and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion. Sonowal also released a book written by the Morigaon Superintendent of Police.
On the other hand, Sonowal also addressed a BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) Jagiroad LAC office bearers' meeting held at Jagiroad playground on Wednesday. He elaborated various development schemes undertaken during his tenure and criticized the Congress government for its 'misrule and mismanagement'.
The Chief Minister, while talking to media persons, criticized Maharashtra Police for arresting Republic TV chief editor ArnabGoswami and demanded early unconditional release of the journalist. The meeting of the party workers was also addressed by former Central minister RajenGohain, ministerPijushHazarika and MLA RamakantaDeuri.
