CM Sonowal lays foundation stone of projects worth Rs 14.17 crore at Sarthebari

BARPETA: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated completed projects and laid the foundation stone of future projects totalling Rs 14.17 crore at Sarthebari on Tuesday.

Speaking at the programme held on the occasion, Sonowal remarked that awareness against corruption was increasing among the people due to the committed steps taken by the State Government to eradicate corruption from the society. The Chief Minister on Tuesday launched the flood and erosion control programme of the Water Resource Department in the State by laying the foundation stone of a project to protect the Krishnaguru Sewashram and its adjoining areas from the erosion caused by Alpajan River to be constructed with Rs 5.34 crore from SOPD fund of 2020-21. Moreover, he also inaugurated the skill development centre named 'Madhumangal' built under Assam Skill Development Mission at Na-Satra for Rs 1.65 crore.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government had been taking various steps to achieve holistic development of Assam in all spheres since coming to power in 2016 and efforts had been made to build a robust work culture in the government offices to ensure that the public welfare schemes were implemented on time along with carrying out a relentless campaign against corrupt practices.

He also referred to uncompromising probe in the Assam Police SI recruitment scam and subsequent success in the case while underlining the State Government's commitment to provide jobs to unemployed youths on the basis of merit.

Referring to the initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the Indo-Bangladesh land disputes and seal the riverine international borders of the State with Israeli technology, Sonowal said that the present State Government had been striving to implement all the clauses of the Assam Accord in letter and spirit. He said that the historic programme to provide land pattas to 1.10 lakh landless indigenous families had been implemented to ensure the land rights of the local people in Assam while providing funds to 8,000 namghars and xatras under Asom Darsan scheme and giving monetary aids to indigenous Sahitya Sabhas under Bhasha Gaurab scheme.

He called on the people of the State to work together with the government to safeguard the interest of the State and urged the students to dedicatedly pursue their academic goals to take forward the State. He appealed to the people to keep strict watch over the quality of construction work of the projects implemented at Na-Satra.

In the beginning of the meeting, the Chief Minister paid tribute to police constable Raben Das, who lost his life in the line of duty during an operation against the cattle smugglers in South Salmara-Mankachar district. He said that the martyr's supreme sacrifice would keep inspiring the people of the state to work for the society.

Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Pijush Hazarika also spoke at the programme which was attended by MLA Gunindra Nath Das, Commissioner and Secretary of Health department, Anurag Goyel and Vice-Chancellor of Krishnaguru Spiritual University, Tarun Chandra Bora, among others.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Minister Sonowal interacted with the artisans engaged in the bell metal industry of Sarthebari and took stock of the manufacturing process of bell metal products. He also visited the mill of Asom Samabai Kohar Sangha Ltd. Notably, the Assam Government had already provided a fund of Rs 1 crore to Asom Samabai Kohar Sangha Ltd for the development of the bell metal industry.
