MAJULI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that women were the nucleus on which the entire society revolved. Considering the immense potential of women, the State Government has taken several schemes to give a definite dimension and shape to women empowerment, stated a press release.

Speaking at a Mahila Samaroh at Dariapar in Majuli on Wednesday, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that realizing the power of women and to utilize their unbridled potential, the State Government had taken several schemes for the welfare of the women. Terming matri shakti, shrestha shakti (power of mother is supreme), Chief Minister Sonowal said that if the women of the State were brought to the central stage, they could contribute immensely to the growth of the State. He therefore, urged upon all the women of the State to make good use of all the schemes taken by the State Government for women empowerment. The Chief Minister also reiterated the State Government's commitment to take up more women-centric schemes for the betterment of the women. He also said that without providing social security to women, Assam could not progress. He therefore, talked about Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Achoni, Indira Miri Widow Pension Scheme and Aideo Handique Mahila Sanman Achoni to provide social security to women.

Chief Minister Sonowal also reiterated his government's commitment to the all-round development of Majuli. He said that since connectivity was crucial for the development of any area, the BJP-led government was working to develop connectivity of this river island. In this context, Sonowal mentioned about the Jorhat-Majuli connecting bridge over the Brahmaputra, the construction work of which would be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on February 18. He also requested the people of Majuli to extend all possible support and assistance for the completion of the project within a stipulated time frame. He said that once the bridge was constructed and dedicated to the service of the people, it would help Majuli to unearth its hidden potential. Chief Minister Sonowal also said that the State Government would continue working for the development of Majuli, so that this river island could transform itself into a model culturally, intellectually, academically, socially and economically.

Chief Minister Sonowal on this occasion presented cheques to the women beneficiaries as a part of Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Achoni. He on this occasion also gifted Scooty to the Jivika Sakhi under ASRLM.

CEM of Deuri Autonomous Council, Madhab Deuri, chairperson of Majuli Zila Parisahd, Papu Hazarika Dutta, Majuli Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, Director of ASRLM, Krishna Baurah and a host of other dignitaries were present.
