KOKRAJHAR: In a shocking incident, a student of class XI of Saint Ann’s College, Debargaon in Kokrajhar was found dead in Gaurang River near Bodoland University on Saturday evening but his body was fished out on Sunday morning by police.
Sources said a student of class XI of Saint Ann’s College Sanswrang Narzary, son of Nikolas Narzary of Kwila-Mwila of Chirang district, went to River Gaurang along with seven other hostel boarders of the college on Saturday. Seven students returned to the hostel in the evening but they did not inform the authorities that Sanswrang Narzary was missing. The information was given very late to the hostel warden who later informed Balajan police outpost at night. The police team fished out the body of Sanswrang Narzary from knee-deep water. Sanswrang Narzary’s claimed that the death of her son by drowning in the river was quite suspicious. She said it was a deliberate attempt of murder as her son received injuries on his back, head and eyes. She demanded that there should be proper investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the general secretary of the ABSU, Khanindra Basumatary said the incident was very unfortunate. He expressed shock over the incident and expressed condolence to the family members. He demanded that the district administration should conduct magisterial inquiry into the incident to remove any suspicion about the incident.
